A program of placing osprey (Pandion haliaetus) nest structures at the Glen L. Martin National Wildlife Refuge, Smith Island, Maryland, was undertaken to compensate for the lack of suitable nest sites there. Ospreys successfully adapted to the nest structures the first year. Osprey production increased as more nest structures were utilized. The number of young ospreys produced per active nest on the refuge was 1.4.
