Aircraft overflights affecting park visitors and resources have been identified as a significant problem at a number of National Parks and Wildeness Areas throughout the United States. In recognition of these concerns, Congress passes the National Parks Overflights Act of 1987 (Public Law 100-91). This law requires the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service to determine any adverse effects of these overflights on park/wilderness visitor safety and enjoyment. The effects of these overflights on the natural, cultural, and historical resources of the park/wilderness are to be considered.
