Craters of the Moon National Monument Mule Deer Survey 1999

Munts M. 1999. Craters of the Moon National Monument Mule Deer Survey 1999. Craters of the Moon NM, Arco Idaho

Annual mule deer surveys have been carried out at Craters of the Moon National Monument (CRMO) since 1984. This report details the unstructured spring surveys and the systematic fall surveys carried out in 1999. The number of does and yearlings observed in spring counts was down from record highs observed in 1998. The fall survey numbers were virtually identical to the previous three year average. The deer population has generally declined since the mid 1980s, but the 1999 data indicates that populations may be stabilizing. Includes summary of surveys 1984-1999.
