Rasker R and Alexander B. 2003. Working Around the White Clouds: County and Community Profiles Surrounding Idaho's Boulder, White Cloud, and Pioneer Mountains. Sonoran Institute. Tucson, AZ

Central Idaho is home to one of the largest unroaded wild areas in the lower 48 states. Citizens are currently exploring the pros and cons of asking Congress to designate the Boulder-White Cloud Mountains as an officially protected Wilderness area. The purpose of this report is to help inform that discussion and place it in the larger context of what it will take for the region's residents to prosper. The report discusses the changing demographic and economic conditions of the regions along with potential consequences of protecting the region's wild lands.
