Information on the overall status and trends of the nation’s resources. For the Western Pacific oceanic region, which includes American Samoa, the report states that there are a large number of species and few resource assessment agencies compared to the United States. Thus the information on the status and trends of noncommercial species is minimal with the exception for the corals and coral reefs. Quantitative data over time are lacking even for commercially important species for this region. Report includes information on environment and physical features, ecosystems (pelagic, costal and insular shelf, slope/seamount), patterns of biodiversity, status of taxonomy, benthic resources, fisheries resources, fishes, reef animals, coral reefs, sea turtles and marine birds.
