An annual report for black bear research and management activities in Redwood National and State Parks (RNSP) during 1997. No research activities were proposed or initiated in 1997. Black bear management during 1997 focused on: completing the Bear Management Guidelines for RNSP, trash and signing assessment, the creation of a bear panel, development of informational and educational material, and resolution of food and garbage storage issues at the California Conservation Corps camp in Requa. The report also summarizes bear incidents and responses in the Park. Attachments include a summary of outdoor school questionaire results, summary of a bear necropsy, tables with bear sign recommendations and trash areas to be bear-proofed, and the minutes from the bear panel meetings.
