A study requested by the Western Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Council (WPRFMC) to determine if federal management of coral reef resources is required in the U.S. South Pacific Islands. An initial assessment of the need for federal management of coral reefs sources was completed in the areas of Hawaii, Territory of American Samoa, Territory of Guam, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and other unincorporated U.S. Pacific Islands. The draft report summaries the available information for these areas. Conclusion is there does not appear to be an urgent need for federal management of coral reef resources in these areas as of 1997.
