An unusual behavioral pattern was observed in American Samoa at Ofu Island where coral polyps retracted in a synchronized wave that traveled slowly by coherently across Porites lobata mounds. Bands appeared to develop from a single but variable location and radiate out over the mound. Includes two photos of bands of retracted polyps on Porites lobata mound.
