Mule deer surveys have been conducted every year at Craters of the Moon National Monument (CRMO) since 1984. This report details mule deer surveys performed in 2001 at CRMO (within pre-2000 monument boundaries). These included unstructured spring surveys as well as the systematic fall surveys in the north end of the monument. The total population estimate was significantly below the 15 year average, which may be due to drought conditions for the previous 25 months. Includes summary of surveys 1984-1999.
