This field guide is designed primarily for use by the professional wildlife manager. It is divided into five sections. The first section deals with recognizing bear sign. Section two covers capture, immobilization, and transportation of bears and should be useful when it is necessary to capture and translocate an animal. Section three discusses marking devices such as ear tags, collars, etc., that have been proven under field conditions. The fourth section deals with techniques and procedures for gathering basic biological information and samples that are important to any bear management program. The final section deals with procedures for investigating and handling bear depredation complaints. The last two pages include bear-proof garbage container plans
