In 1988 the Mexican long-nosed bat was listed as an endangered species. Mt. Emory cave in Big Bend National Park, Texas, is the only known roosting site in the United States. The Mexican long-nosed bat population decline has been attributed to disruption of roosting sites and food sources, primarily in Mexico. The present census, conducted on July 13, 1991, estimated between 4289 to 5127 individuals roosting in Emory cave
