The time and probable cause of extinction of the California condor, Gymnogyps californianus, in Grand Canyon, Arizona are discussed. Radiocarbon dating indicates that this species became extinct in the Grand Canyon, and other parts of the inland West, more than 10,000 years ago coincidentally with the extinction of megafauna (probascidians, edentates, perissodactyls). Condors may have relied on megafauna for food. Two sites in Brewster County are included in the data
