In 2000, a comprehensive bear habitat inventory and analysis of campsite risk assessment was initiated at Glacier Bay National Park (GLBA) under the direction of Dr. Tom Smith, bear research scientist with US Geological Survey (USGS), Biological Sciences Office of the Alaska Science Center. Project collaborators also include Dr. Terry DeBruyn of the National Park Service (NPS-Anchorage) and Rusty Yerxa (NPS/GLBA). Tania Lewis and Nat Drumheller, both NPS biological technicians (GLBA) were responsible for data collection. USGS bear biologist Steve Partridge has also assisted with research planning and implementation.
