A mammal inventory at Craters of the Moon was conducted from May 20 to June 27, 2003. The primary goals of the inventory were to supplement existing mammal species documentation in the monument and bring the percentage of confirmed expected species as close to 90% as possible. Additional goals included developing baseline data for monitoring as well as poviding the National Park Service and the research community-at-large with new and important information on the biodiversity of the region.
