The primary objective of this trip was to survey Steller sea lion (Eumetopias jubatus) rookeries and haulouts throughout Southeast Alaska (SEA) and northern British Columbia (BC) to resight branded Steller sea lions (SSL). Pups were branded at their natal rookeries in June-July of 1994, 1995, and 2001 at the Forester Island complex and in 2001 at the Hazy Islands. Older pups and juveniles were branded at rookeries and haulouts in SEA during May and August 2001. Observations also were made of sea lions that were branded as pups in the western stock in 2000 (Marmot and Sugarloaf islands near Kodiak Island) and 2001 (Fish Island and Seal Rocks in Prince William Sound). A secondary objective of this trip was to assist the University of BC with scat collections at haulouts throughout SEA and northern BC. Dr. Andrew Trites of the University of BC will prepare a separate report on the diet information obtained from those scats.
