A tundra swan survey pilot study was conducted in June 2002. Tundra swans were surveyed in Bristol Bay in years 1983-1987 and 1991. This project resampled plots that were established by Wilk (1987). The survey was conducted from 4 June 2002 to 7 June 2002 focusing on nesting tundra swans. The survey was to be flown two times, once in june and then again in August to obtain producutivity measures. Due to staff illness the survey was only conducted in June. This project follows the protocol of the Alaska Peninsula/Becharof National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) draft Wildlife Inventory Plan (WIP)- Tundra Swan population and productivity monitoring (USFWS 2001). The plan outlines the significance of this project.
