The Snake River Plain of southern Idaho is a region of late Cenozoic and Quaternary basalt volcanism and many volcanic rift zones. This paper covers the evolution of Craters of the Moon Lava field in the northern portion of the Great Rift. Two other Holocene lava fields on the Great Rift, the Kings bowl and Wapi fields, are also discussed. It discusses topics such as paleomagnetic measurement of lava fields, a recognition of 8 eruptive periods, the composition of flows, and the evolution of lava fields. The geographic location is regional, including CRMO (Craters of the Moon National Monument).
