Beringian ferrets: mummies, biogeography, and systematics

Two mummified black-footed ferrets (Mustela nigripes) are reported from Pleistocene deposits in the Yukon Territory, Canada. These and seven new finds of fossils perhaps representing the Eurasian steppe ferret (Mustela eversmanni) in the Yukon Territory suggest that both forms occurred allopatrically in a grassland environment in Beringia at some time between 30,370 and 39,560 years ago.
