Reef mapping and beach monitoring project at the Ofu Unit of the National Park of American Samoa and adjacent Territorial reef park at Ofu Island
Maragos JE, Meier KZ, Hunter CL. 1995. Reef mapping and beach monitoring project at the Ofu Unit of the National Park of American Samoa and adjacent Territorial reef park at Ofu Island. Corial. Honolulu, HI
The purpose of this study was to provide geographical reef map enhancements and accompanying attribute data concerning coral reef areas, and establish base points and baseline data for a beach profile monitoring program in the Territorial Marine park and the Ofu Unit of the National Park of American Samoa. Data products were derived from information collected during a field survey in Ofu in March 1995. The attribute data will be tied to digital base maps created by R.M. Towill, Inc., for the US NPS. A beach profile measurement program and accompanying training guide and pre-printed data forms were developed to match the monitoring needs of Ofu beaches and allow Park personnel to be trained to replicate the monitoring program in the future. The program was implemented while the field team was in Ofu.
