Systematic counts of snowshoe hares, were attempted during the 1994 summer season using the 36 kilometer road to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes as a transect. During the season, only one hare was seen, suggesting that the hares have not recovered from the population crash that occured during the winter of 1991-1992.
