From the Abstract: "Sockeye and kokanee collections from Lake Ozette, WA representing seven sampling sites and spanning 14 years were genetically characterized at 17 microsatellite DNA loci. Strong divergence between sockeye and kokanee was documented. The genetic diversity of the populations did not change over the time period covered in the study, and there was no general trend indicating genetic problems due to inbreeding or small populations sizes. No genetic differences were found among the koianee populations analyzed in this study. Very little genetic difference was found among the three sockeye populations; however, distinct genetic differences existed among year class lineages separated by four years. Persistent, low-level hybridization between sockeye and kokanee was suggested."
