Neff reviewed the pellet ground count technique as applied to big game trend, census, and distribution studies and discussed related problems. Timmermann indicated that the lack of information on moose deposition rate was the most important factor hindering successful application of the pellet count technique. He demonstrated the discrepancies in reported daily deposition rates for moose and reviewed the causes of these descrepancies. Pellet group censys technique studies at the Kenai Moose Research Center (MRC) with known numbers of moose in an enclosed area resulted in variability in calculated deposition rates. Subsequently, deposition rates were obtained by observation at the MRC and this note reports these findings.
