In this study the forest composition and its relation to environmental variables in a paleotropic forest on Tutuila, American Samoa were studied. Patterns of species dominance and diversity were found to vary between forest communities with species diversity increasing with elevation. In addition, the location and differences in the composition between forest groups appear to be related to factors such as disturbance, elevation, and substrate conditions.
