Ground-water studies in areas of potential development show that large-scale withdrawals of ground water from the Navajo Sandstone, as would be needed for cooling of a large thermoelectric powerplant, would deplete the aquifer in less than ten years. Due to the small amount of recharge to and discharge from the Navajo Sandstone in the area, most of the water would come from storage rather than from diverted natural discharge. There is a detailed discussion of the geology of the area, and of the hydrologic setting. Two maps folded in pocket, 14 figures, 9 tables, bibliography
