The Pulemelei project, Savai`i, Samoa

Author unknown. 2003. The Pulemelei project, Savai`i, Samoa

The purpose of the Pulemelei excavations was to investigate the age and function of the mound and surrounding features. The intension was also to investigate the settlement chronology at the site. Since large mound structures, pavements, roads, earth ovens, house mounds/platforms as well as an early settlement are found here it may be a very fruitful site to be able to understand the transformation of the ASP (Ancestral Polynesian Society) and the rise of the Polynesian chiefdom and the mound building tradition.
