Small mammal trapping was conducted at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore and St. Croix National Scenic Riverway to determine the number of species able to colonize islands. Islands at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway were represented by small patches of prairie surrounded by forest on the mainland.
