An air survey of 30 random plots in southeast Alaska in 1967 indicated that the eligible breeding population of northern bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus alascanus) numbered at least 7,287 ± 24.8 percent of the 95 percent confidence level. An evaluation of sampling distribution suggested that the population probably exceeded 8,000. The survey can be easily repeated to evaluate changes in the status of the population.
