Global change and the carbon balance of arctic ecosystems

The aim of this article is to discuss carbon/nutrient interactions and their implications for response of arctic carbon budgets to global warming. Of course, global warming will be accompanied by other changes that may also affect carbon balance, including increased atmospheric CO sub(2) concentrations, changes in light intensity (due to changes in cloudiness), changes in precipitation and soil moisture, and changes in atmospheric nitrogen deposition (due to increased anthropogenic emissions to the atmosphere). The interaction of these factors with temperature change must also be considered.
