Growth Energetics of the White Ibis
Kushlan JA. 1977. Growth Energetics of the White Ibis. The Condor. 79(1):31-36
The author reports on the growth and energetics of white ibises (Eudocimus albus) and attempts to estimate the energy requirements of wild birds from those studied in captivity. Biomass growth was measured on five captive birds, young ibises taken from nests as pipped eggs and compared with the growth of 33 wild nestlings (from a south Florida colony). Energy required for growth and development was studied in captives by measuring daily metabolized energy through the nesting period.
