The tropical Pacific is inhabited by at least 672 species of terrestrial and freshwater amphibians and reptiles. New Guinea, the largest and most topographical diverse island in this region, accounts for more than 80% of the overall land area, and has at least 472 species, more than 2/3 of the Pacific total. In Samoa there are 15 species of amphibians and reptiles. These include five species of Pacific geckos, nine species of skinks, and one snake, the Pacific boa.
