The bat is observed regularly only on Hawaii, Kauai, and Maui. Population numbers are not known. There is a general lack of historic and current data on this subspecies, and its present status is not well-understood. Habitat requirements for the bat are not well-known. The bats roost solitarily in the foliage of trees. Threats to this sub-species include habitat destruction, pesticides, introduced insects, and disease. The interim goal of this plan is to determine actual population status and habitat requirements. Indices of abundance are available. Downlisting can occur when the population on Hawaii is determined to be stable or increasing for at least five consecutive years.
