36 CFR Part 79: Curation of Federally-owned and administered archeological collections

McManamon FP. 1991. 36 CFR Part 79: Curation of Federally-owned and administered archeological collections. U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service. Washington, D.C.

This final rule establishes definitions, standards, procedures and guidelines to be followed by Federal agencies to preserve collections of prehistoric and historic material remains, and associated records, that are recovered in conjunction with Federal projects and programs under certain Federal statutes. This action should ensure that federally-owned and administered collections of prehistoric and historic material remains, and associated records, are deposited in repositories that have the capability to provide adequate long term curatorial services. Issuance of this rule fulfills the Secretary of the Interior's obligations under the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 to issue such regulations.
