The authors compare and contrast theories dealing with species diversity and richness at varying point of time in successional stages. Their example is based in the Solomon Islands to provide insight into regeneration rates and species compositions after frequent high-level disturbances. Other examples, such as British pasture reclaimation, are also included to highlight theories and examples of regeneration and competition after disturbances.
