Forest and Adjacent Burn in the Tillamook Burn Area of Northwestern Oregon

Neiland BJ. 1958. Forest and Adjacent Burn in the Tillamook Burn Area of Northwestern Oregon. Ecology. 39(4):660-671

The author sampled community structure and density in three different habitats after the Tillamook fires. These habitats were classified as drained upland, streamside, or marsh meadow. She found that different tree species had different densities in each age class and elevation. Douglas fir was most dominant at the higher elevations in the older age classes and western hemlock was more evenly spread throughout the age classes. Herbs and shrubs were also noticed at the varying locations.
