Fish and shellfish catches have been declining in the lagoons and reefs of American Samoa. There are several reasons for the decline which include overexploitation, destructive fishing methods, and environmental disturbances. In 2000, a survey was conducted in eleven villages to obtain information on the extent of the fishing problems. This report summarizing the findings of the survey.
