Census plots were surveyed for breeding bird territories in the Monument Canyon Research Natural Area, Jemez Mountains, NM. Five ponderosa pine communities with different understory components were studied to determine how birds respond to a range of habitats. Birds found in each community are compared in regards to their density, continental origin, dominance by number of individuals and biomass, and ecological niches. Included is an annotated checklist of the birds encountered, with common and scientific names and known current ranges.
