Rana virgatipes Cope (1891(, the carpenter frog, was first recorded in 1940 by Roger Conant in Delmarva from the Great Cedar Swamp, south of Millsboro in Sussex County, Delaware. Later, in 1945, Conant remarked that "the extensive drainage operations now in progress may well have destroyer this habitat," with the additional note that this frog had been collected there as late as the spring of 1942. To my knowledge no later collections have been recorded or published from Sussex County.
