Provides a taxonomic report resulting from field surveys conducted during 1975-77 in the Crater District of Haleakala National Park. 389 species of insects (235 endemic, 83 unique to Haleakala) are identified. Includes maps of species locations and an annotated list of species. The Argentine ant (Iridomyrmex humilis) and the ground-nesting yellowjacket (Vespula pensylvanica and V. vulgaris) are identified as serious threats to the ecosystem, and their eradication is advised. Removal of the feral goat and pig are also recommended.
