The primary purpose of the trip to Tau Unit of National Park of American Samoa during December 1-9, 2001 was to ascertain if other species of seabirds, such as Polynesian storm-petrels, Gould's or Phoenix petrel were present, as was suggested b past visits. Taping and listening at night was the main focus. The status of the nesting Tahiti petrels was documented and tape records were made. Six sets of feathers from the Tahiti petrels were collected for DNA analysis. Rat trappings were taken and results in the petrel nesting areas were zero.
