Harbor seal surveys in Kenai Fjords National Park
Bignell CC. 1994. Harbor seal surveys in Kenai Fjords National Park. US National Park Service. Kenai Fjords National Park. Seward, AK
From Summary: This report compares the surveys of harbor seal populations in Aialik Bay, Alaska conducted this summer (June - August 1994) to similar surveys conducted in the past. Previously conducted surveys in Aialik Bay are described. The reaction of harbor seals to boating activity and aircraft is described. The results of past surveys and this year's surveys are shown, comparisons made, conclusions drawn, and recommendations made. It was concluded that the increasing number of tour boats entering the fjords could have a negative impact on the seals. It is recommended that the guidelines set by Murphy and Hoover (1981) continue to be followed for surveying harbor seals in Kenai Fjords National Park.
