There was no significant difference between fish aggregation devices (FADs) and banks based on test fishery catch-per-unit-of-effort (CPUE) figures. Catches were always lower in open water. Combined test fishery information from three years gave catch rates of 5.8 kg/hr for open-water, 21.0 kg/hr for FADs and 31.0 kg/yr for banks. There were significant differences between FADs and open-water plus banks for mean lengths of yellowfin tuna and skipjack tuna. The smaller sizes of yellowfin and skipjack tuna at FADs is discuss in terms of statistical and biological differences, and for possible size range bias in the test fishery catches.
