Effects of cyclone Ofa on the fisheries and coral reefs of Upolu, Western Samoa in 1990
Zann LP and Sua T. 1991. Effects of cyclone Ofa on the fisheries and coral reefs of Upolu, Western Samoa in 1990. FAO/UNDP SAM/89/002 Field Report no. 2. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Apia, Western Samoa
Describes the general effects and the cyclone itself; over half the boats and 7 of 8 fish aggregation devices (FADS) were damaged which obviously caused a decline in fish catch but will allow some recovery of fish stocks; northern reefs were most affected with much of the coral on the reef slopes killed but the southern reefs were little affected; the cyclone formed some banks of coral rubble and gravel which affected circulation; some banks are already disappearing and others may last for a while.
