Results indicate that leakage fish from the cannery in American Samoa has a large impact on the local market. The estimate of total leakage and the local point of purchase invoice system show that about half of the locally sold fish originate as cannery leakage. A beneficial outcome of leakage fish to the consumer is it provides access to fish at low prices.
