Hat Creek lava flow

The Hat Creek basalt flow was erupted along a line of north-south fissures probably within the past 2,000 years. This flow is north of Lassen Peak. In spite of the holocrystalline texture of the bulk of the lava, it possesses many characteristics indicating marked fluidity at the time of eruption. The Hat Creek basalt is of the same composition and texture as the Pliocene Warner basalt also of fissure origin.
