Kishenehn Formation

The Kishenehn formation was discovered by G. M. Dawson and named by R. A. Daly. It contains a fauna of nonmarine mollusks and mammals, the latter permitting an age assignment to the Early Oligocene or Late Eocene. At least 21 exposures occur along the North Branch of Flathead River and its tributaries in Montana and British Columbia. The rocks consist of coarse conglomerates, massive and thin-bedded sandstones, friable mudstones, platy shale, lignite, and massive limestone. Fossils occur mainly in the mudstones and limestones.
