The objective of this inventory was to document avian species diversity and relative abundance along prescribed shoreline and wetland route within Puuhonua O Honaunau National Historical park (PUHO). The study site of PUHO was divided into five study areas: Kiilae, South Coves, Picnic/Administration, Imperial Grounds, and Inner Ponds. Three species of shorebirds were observed during the surveys: Ruddy turnstone, wandering tattler and Pacific golden-plover, and one waterbird, the black-crowned night-heron. The wandering tattler was the most commonly observed shoreline bird. One pair of black-crowned night-heron was first observed in March 2004.
