Forest bird inventory, Kalaupapa National Historical Park

Forest bird surveys were conducted in KALA using the variable circular plot (VCP) method. Between six and twelve survey stations were set 140 m apart along six transects. Stations were surveyed for birds from March-May 2005. Results showed the presence of three native forest bird species, the apapane, the iiwi and Hawaii amakihi and 12 alien forest bird species.
