Following vegetation emergency stabilization recommendations from the USDOI Burned Area Emergency Response team, Whiskeytown staff undertook efforts to control non-native invasive plant establishment and growth and monitor the vegetation response to the fire shortly after the fire was contained. Mechanical and chemical treatment of select invasive plant species was initiated on 82.1 acres, and 115 acres of new invasive plant occurrences were mapped in the fire area. In addition, photopoints were established to monitor long-term conditions at the treatment sites. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to determine the overall vegetation response to the fire and the potential management implications. Immediate post-fire shrub recovery was monitored with photos and observational surveys, while pre-fire quantitative data was used to assess overall tree, shrub, and herbaceous species response.
