The abundance of helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon in gas emanations from thermal springs in Yellowstone and Lassen National Parks were determined by an isotope dilution procedure. The isotopic composition of Ar and relative abundances of Ar, Ne, Kr, and Xe indicate that these gases originated from the atmosphere through dissolution in ground water. A marked excess of He is attributed to juvenile He from radioactive decay.
