A management plan was developed for the Henrys Fork Weed Management Area (HFWMA) in 1994. The purpose of the management plan was to coordinate efforts "to prevent, contain, reduce, and hopefully eradicate noxious weeds in the HFWMA." In April 1995, cooperating agencies in the HFWMA developed a cost-share weed-mapping project. The purpose of this project was to synthesize existing weed distribution maps and incorporate the maps and attribute data into a standardized data-management system. This project was designed to be a learning exercise for the participants, to identify the status of weed data management and to facilitate data standardization. The HFWMA includes Fremont County, ID and portions of Teton County, Wyoming, that include the Bechler sub-district in Yellowstone National Park and Ashton Ranger District of Targhee National Forest.
